Week 3 Update

Room 18’s Topic

In Room 18 we have been learning about Egypt. Today, we made a mindmap about what we have learnt about Ancient Egypt. Lots of people put something on. Things like; Egyptians invented writing and; pyramids are made out of limestone. We have learned loads of things about Egypt. This afternoon we've started writing our names in hieroglyphics. We will take some photos once they are finished.

Term 4

Hi To Everyone,

I hope everyone liked Funky Hair Day last term, we are all wearing wide brimmed hats now so we stay safe in the sun.
We are loving learning about Egypt! We are starting to make Power points, pick a paths, Comic life, word documents, plays, and photo stories.

It's Term 4 and we are back into swimming. We are swimming in Week 1 & 2, & 5 & 6. So we will need to bring togs everyday!!! :-)

Our Social Skill for the first two weeks are our five basic needs. We are using role play to show our understanding of these.

We are having a big push on Statistics and are using the NZ Maths site and logging on to Digi Ops.

Term 3...wow

Welcome back and what a super term we have coming up. We have lots of exciting learning to do this term. We are in our production term and will be working on 'The Creation Story' from a Maori perspective. We will be dancing, singing and enjoying some dramatic performance learning. Our other area of learning is Keeping Ourselves Safe and this is all about understanding our feelings, and learning strategies that help us to keep safe and make good choices. Our Social Skills carry on through out the term and we are breaking down the connecting behaviours- listening, supporting, encouraging, respecting, trusting, accepting and negotiating. Our first focus is listening!!!
I am looking forward to Week 3 & 4 (04/08/09, 11/08/09) to catch up with parents and share what's been happening over the last two terms. I would love the children to come along to these to explain and share their learning experiences with you too!!

At home the children will bring home a library book every Monday and their spelling so please keep on with this and any maths activities and games to support their learning will be super.

Production will be in Week 9 so keep this on your calendar- 16/09/09 Matinee, 7pm show, 17/09/09 7pm show.

Keep warm and bring on the spring weather I say..

Looking forward to seeing you soon

Assemblies for the term are Week 4, Week 7, and Week 10

Science

Check out what's happening in Room 18..

Science in Room 18

Hi it’s room 18 checking you up on our science fair. Everyone has been very busy working nearly every day, man are we exhausted. We are so busy working we have spent more than 3 days. The most impressive I’ve seen so far is a lamp heating up an egg, the people in the group are Taylor, Jacob, Millie and James. They are investigating solar power. The egg is not edible but it works. The egg looks so YUM but we can’t eat it boo hoo… any way should we talk about others even if you don’t like it were going to talk about it anyway. One is putting water through a hole and it will go down the coke and sprite bottles and spin a water wheel. The next one is basically the same but more complex the water runs down one bottle and goes down little holes so spinning the wheel and so they don’t have to go and get some more water they have a water catcher it sucks the water down in to another bottle. Well that’s all I know. You know when I was writing this the experiments were taking place. When I heard about the science fair to me I felt really bad but I was put in charge of my group and I thought well it can’t be that bad can it, and it isn’t. So if kids are reading this please for science sake give it a go, it can be really fun so please try it please… well I think you’ve heard enough from me today so
BYE SAM

The Disco

Dear Diary
On Friday I went to the disco and it was fun. I was dressed up like my self. It was a whole lot of fun because my friend and I were dancing. My friend was dressed up like a farmer he had a top on and a wig for hair. My friend and I were playing and dancing all night long.
After the disco I got into the car and then my bright yellow glow stick popped like a dinasour hatching out of its egg. It blew and went all over the car. When I got home I went to bed because I was so tired!
